Dawn House Donates Smart Bed to George to the Rescue
High-Tech Sleep System Offers Accessible Solution for Home Renovation Recipient
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2023) – In a mission to help keep a wife and mother of two in her home with her family following a life-changing medical diagnosis, Ergomotion Inc. donated a Dawn House bed.
Jackie Pearsall was a physical education teacher and very active prior to a diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in 2021. The rare disease has caused her to lose most of her mobility as well as her ability to speak. Her change in daily needs made their home incredibly difficult to navigate, including tasks such as bathing and sleeping.
George to the Rescue, hosted by home improvement expert and licensed contractor George Oliphant on NBC, learned Jackie’s story and decided to intervene.
“I am inspired by Jackie’s incredible strength while going through the horrific trials of ALS,” said Oliphant. “We’re so appreciative of Dawn House and everybody who came together to make this happen for the Pearsall family.”
Oliphant and a team of design and build professionals renovated the family’s two-story home by relocating the couples’ bedroom to the first floor, making it more accessible with the help of a Dawn House sleep system.
“Jackie and her family’s story deeply moved and inspired us to help,” said Gui Peres, COO of Ergomotion. “They embody the reason behind creating our sleep system — the need for a safe, non-medical-looking bed.”
The luxury-designed adjustable smart bed is the only sleep system available that provides the unique pairing of multiple innovative bed features: adjustable height, motion activated underbed lighting, auto anti-snore, a Rise to Wake feature, Zero-G positioning, vibration motors and passive biometric sensors. The bed also features an optional support rail to assist with changing needs and support aging in place.
“When designing our beds, we heard people express a recurring feeling that their beds felt like obstacles,” said Peres. “That’s why we prioritized convenience and agency to ensure everyone, including caregivers like Brian, has easy access to the bed.”
Importantly, the passive biometric sensors to monitor a variety of sleep and health metrics. This allows both Jackie and Brian to be aware of key health indicators through a daily report.
Dawn House bed has received recognition from Fast Company, Good Housekeeping, CES, and House Beautiful, among other notable accolades.
